Job Summary:
We are looking for well experienced individuals to operate a production drilling rig safely and efficiently to drill blast holes according to the mine plan, ensuring drilling targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate production drill rigs in accordance with operating procedures.
- Drill blast holes to the required depth, diameter, inclination, and location.
- Follow drilling patterns provided by the mine planning and survey teams.
- Ensure drilled holes meet blast design specifications.
- Monitor drilling performance and productivity.
- Conduct pre-start and post-shift inspections.
- Check hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Perform basic maintenance and lubrication.
- Report equipment defects and breakdowns immediately.
- Maintain drilling equipment in a clean and serviceable condition
- Record metres drilled per shift.
- Monitor fuel, lubricant, and consumable usage.
- Report drilling progress and delays.
- Assist in achieving daily and monthly production targets.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Ensure drill pads are safe and free of hazards.
- Assist with rig relocation and setup.
Education
- Grade 12 (Matric) preferred.
- Relevant drilling operator training certificate.
Experience
- 2–5 years’ experience operating production drill rigs.
- Experience in open-pit mining operations.
- Familiarity with rotary, DTH (Down-the-Hole), or top-hammer drilling systems.
Skills and Competencies
- Production drill rig operation.
- Basic mechanical and hydraulic knowledge.
- Understanding of drilling patterns and blast-hole specifications.
- Communication and teamwork skills.
- Safety awareness and attention to detail.
