We are looking for a process Engineer to lead the design, modelling and optimization of ZEN Carbon's CO₂ mineralization process. You will translate laboratory concepts into scalable industrial processes through reaction engineering, process simulation, process design and process optimization. Working closely with our chemistry, mechanical and automation teams, you will help build and scale one of Africa's first carbon mineralization technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize CO₂ mineralization processes for concrete production.
- Develop reaction kinetics models and evaluate process limitations.
- Build process simulations using DWSIM, Aspen Plus or equivalent software.
- Perform material and energy balances and develop process design calculations.
- Design Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and support equipment selection.
- Improve process efficiency, energy consumption and CO₂ utilization.
- Support reactor development, process scale-up and pilot deployments.
- Identify process risks, safety considerations and operational improvements.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and mass & energy balances.
- Experience using DWSIM, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS or similar process simulation software.
- Ability to develop process simulations, PFDs and engineering calculations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.
Preferred
- Experience in CO₂ utilization, carbon capture, cement/concrete manufacturing or pilot plant development.
- Familiarity with MATLAB, Python or other engineering modelling tools.
