About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Primary Therapist (Licensed or Associate Therapist) to join our team in providing high-quality care to individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders. We welcome applications from both licensed clinicians and associate-level clinicians who are passionate about helping clients build a foundation for lasting recovery.
The Primary Therapist plays a critical role in supporting clients throughout their treatment journey, from admission through discharge planning and transition into aftercare. The ideal candidate is skilled in clinical assessment, treatment planning, individual and group therapy, and collaborative care within a multidisciplinary treatment environment.
Associate-level clinicians (AMFT, ACSW, APCC) are encouraged to apply. Clinical supervision will be provided in accordance with California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements and agency policy.
Essential Responsibilities:
Clinical Services
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans.
- Provide weekly individual therapy sessions and daily client check-ins.
- Meet with clients individually on a daily basis for a minimum of 30 minutes to assess treatment progress, review coping skills, address clinical needs, and collaborate on aftercare planning.
- Facilitate psychoeducational and process groups.
- Provide individual, group, and family/support-system counseling as appropriate.
- Deliver crisis intervention, emotional support, and de-escalation services when needed.
- Maintain ongoing assessment of client progress, treatment needs, and recovery goals.
- Provide education to clients and their families/support systems.
Care Coordination & Discharge Planning
- Coordinate client care with internal and external providers.
- Collaborate with clients and families/support systems throughout treatment.
- Develop and implement comprehensive discharge and aftercare plans.
- Connect clients with community resources and support services.
- Assist clients in establishing continuity of care and recovery supports following treatment.
- Assist the Program Director and Clinical Director in coordinating services and integrating aftercare resources within the community.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all clinical documentation within 24 hours of services rendered.
- Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with company policies, licensing requirements, DHCS standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
- Complete all documentation according to company policies and procedures.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, case consultations, and staff trainings.
Team Collaboration
- Communicate client progress, clinical concerns, discharge planning updates, and behavioral observations to the multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Support treatment team cohesion while maintaining client dignity and respect.
- Provide clinical guidance and support to floor staff when management is unavailable.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and initiate necessary interventions.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Crisis Management
- Provide crisis intervention services, including emotional support and de-escalation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of California 5150 criteria and coordinate involuntary psychiatric evaluations when clinically indicated.
- Maintain communication with the treatment team regarding any behaviors, symptoms, or safety concerns requiring ongoing attention.
QualificationsRequired
- Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited college or university.
- Current California registration or licensure in good standing, including:
- AMFT (Associate Marriage and Family Therapist)
- ACSW (Associate Clinical Social Worker)
- APCC (Associate Professional Clinical Counselor)
- LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)
- LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)
- LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor)
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards.
- Commitment to a recovery-oriented, client-centered approach to treatment.
Preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, or related settings.
- Knowledge of ASAM criteria and substance use disorder treatment practices.
- Experience with discharge planning, case management, and community resource coordination.
- Familiarity with California 5150 criteria and procedures.
- Valid California Driver’s License and ability to drive a company vehicle.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
