Job Description
The mission of STAR Academy is to become an educational incubator that promotes innovative teaching and learning with a global perspective and to ensure the highest academic achievement in a safe and nurturing environment. In 2026-2027 we will serve more than 450 students in prek4 through 8th grade.
The Pre-K 4 Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and academically engaging classroom that supports the developmental growth of 4-year-old students. The teacher designs and implements developmentally appropriate instruction that promotes early literacy, numeracy, social-emotional development, and independence while preparing students for kindergarten readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with early childhood standards
Classroom Environment
- Establish and maintain a structured, organized, and welcoming classroom environment
- Develop consistent routines and procedures to support student independence
- Ensure classroom safety, supervision, and appropriate use of materials
Student Development & Assessment
- Monitor and assess student progress using observations, portfolios, and formal/informal assessments
- Support social-emotional development, including self-regulation and peer interaction
- Differentiate instruction based on developmental levels and individual needs
Classroom Management
- Implement positive behavior supports and age-appropriate discipline strategies
- Foster a respectful, inclusive classroom culture
- Teach and reinforce expectations consistently
Family Communication
- Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and classroom activities
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences and provide progress reports
- Encourage family engagement and participation in school activities
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with assistant teachers, support staff, and administration
- Participate in professional development and team planning meetings
- Coordinate with special education and related service providers as needed
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and licensing regulations
- Monitor student wellness and respond to injuries or concerns appropriately
- Supervise students during all activities, including transitions, meals, and outdoor play
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (required)
- Valid state teaching license/certification for Pre-K or Early Childhood
- Experience working with preschool-aged children (preferred)
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
Skills & Competencies
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to engage young learners through creative and interactive instruction
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working with young children
- Ability to manage a classroom of 20 students with appropriate support
Working Conditions
- Active classroom environment requiring standing, walking, and frequent movement
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist young children as needed
- May include outdoor supervision in varying weather conditions
