Parts Manager – Heavy Commercial Vehicle Industry
Location: Camperdown, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Department: Parts Department
Reports To: Operations Manager / General Manager
Job Purpose
The Parts Manager is responsible for the efficient operation, profitability, and control of the parts department, ensuring the correct parts are available to support workshop operations, fleet customers, and retail clients within the heavy commercial vehicle sector.
The role focuses on maintaining an organised and highly efficient warehouse that supports the high-pressure demands of heavy commercial vehicle repairs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Parts Department Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the parts department to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Oversee parts receiving, binning, and issuing processes.
- Maintain an organized warehouse and storage system.
2. Inventory Management
- Maintain optimal stock levels to avoid shortages and overstocking.
- Monitor stock turns, dead stock, and slow-moving items.
- Conduct regular stock checks, and lead quarterly and annual stock audits.
- Pro-active in reconciling all stock discrepancies.
- Implement systems to minimize stock losses and discrepancies.
- Ensure accurate inventory records within the ERP system.
3. Financial Management
- Manage departmental budgets and profitability.
- Approve credit notes, returns, and warranty claims where applicable.
- Monitor supplier lead times and delivery performance.
4. Customer Service & Sales
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with fleet customers, workshops, and retail clients.
- Ensure prompt and accurate parts supply.
- Support the sales team with technical parts knowledge.
- Handle customer queries, complaints, and escalations professionally.
6. Staff Management
- Manage, train, and supervise parts department staff
- Set performance targets and KPIs.
- Conduct performance reviews and staff development.
7. Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards, company policies, and safety regulations.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit compliance.
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the department.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of heavy commercial vehicle parts including trailer parts
- Inventory and warehouse management expertise
- Leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in management systems and inventory software
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in a commercial vehicle parts environment
- Minimum 3–5 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Knowledge of OEM parts systems and supply chains
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong computer literacy
Working Conditions
- Fast-paced commercial workshop environment.
- Regular interaction with technicians, suppliers, and fleet customers.
- Occasional overtime during stock counts and operational demands.
Pay: R20 000,00 – R25 000,00 per month
