Role Description The Owner role is a full-time, on-site position based in Nairobi County, Kenya. The Owner provides strategic leadership, sets the long-term vision, and ensures alignment with Nation Media Group’s mission to serve audiences across East and Central Africa. Daily responsibilities include overseeing business performance, guiding major investments and resource allocation, and ensuring editorial independence alongside strong ethical and governance standards. The role involves collaborating with executive leaders on corporate strategy, digital transformation, and market expansion, as well as engaging with shareholders, regulators, partners, and key stakeholders. The Owner also supports a culture of innovation, inclusion, and compliance, while monitoring risks and opportunities across print, electronic, and digital media operations.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in executive or ownership-level leadership, with strong skills in strategic planning, corporate governance, and organizational oversight.
- Background in media, communications, or related industries, with an understanding of print, broadcast, and digital media markets in Africa or comparable regions.
- Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, including boards, shareholders, regulators, partners, and diverse internal teams.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, investment decisions, risk management, and long-term value creation.
- Commitment to ethical leadership, editorial independence, and compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks in a multi-country environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills, with the ability to lead in a fast-changing, digitally driven media landscape.
- Advanced degree in business, media management, law, economics, or a related field is highly beneficial; international exposure or prior leadership in listed companies is an added advantage.
