Position Overview
The Lead Teacher is responsible for overseeing the academic quality, educator performance, learner progress, and daily teaching operations within the online school environment. The successful candidate will provide instructional leadership, mentor teaching staff, ensure curriculum compliance, and maintain high standards of online education delivery.
The Lead Teacher plays a key role in ensuring academic excellence, learner engagement, teacher accountability, and operational efficiency across the school.
Key Responsibilities1. Academic Leadership
- Oversee and support the effective delivery of the CAPS curriculum and/or other approved curricula
- Ensure teaching standards and academic expectations are maintained
- Monitor lesson plans, academic pacing, and curriculum coverage
- Assist in the development and improvement of teaching strategies and learning materials
- Ensure academic policies and procedures are implemented consistently
2. Staff Supervision and Management
- Supervise and support teachers, tutors, invigilators, and academic assistants
- Conduct regular staff meetings, evaluations, and performance reviews
- Monitor staff attendance, professionalism, and productivity
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development support
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of teaching staff
3. Learner Academic Oversight
- Monitor learner attendance, participation, behaviour, and academic performance
- Identify learners requiring academic intervention or additional support
- Coordinate remedial strategies and learner support plans
- Ensure learners meet assessment deadlines and academic requirements
- Maintain a learner-focused educational environment
4. Online Teaching and Learning Management
- Oversee the quality and effectiveness of online classes
- Ensure educators effectively utilise online learning platforms and digital tools
- Monitor learner engagement during virtual lessons
- Ensure lesson recordings, resources, assessments, and communications are uploaded correctly and timeously
- Assist with troubleshooting basic online learning issues where necessary
5. Assessment and Examination Management
- Oversee assessment scheduling and implementation
- Moderate assignments, tests, examinations, and memorandums
- Ensure fair and consistent assessment practices
- Monitor marking quality, turnaround times, and report completion
- Assist with examination invigilation procedures and compliance
6. Parent and Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding learner progress and concerns
- Attend parent meetings, consultations, and academic feedback sessions
- Address escalated academic queries and concerns appropriately
- Maintain positive relationships with learners, parents, and staff
7. Administration and Reporting
- Prepare academic reports and performance summaries
- Maintain accurate academic and staff records
- Assist with timetabling, scheduling, and operational planning
- Ensure compliance with school systems, policies, and deadlines
- Submit reports to management as required
8. Compliance and Professional Standards
- Ensure compliance with SACE requirements and educational standards
- Maintain confidentiality regarding learner, staff, and school information
- Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability
- Ensure adherence to school policies and procedures
Minimum RequirementsQualifications
- Bachelor of Education (BEd) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Valid SACE registration
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years teaching experience
- Previous online teaching or academic management experience advantageous
- Experience with CAPS curriculum preferred

Pay: R12 000,00 – R15 000,00 per month
