A large passenger transport operator is seeking a highly experienced operations leader to oversee and manage national-level bus operations. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective day-to-day operations across the fleet, while maintaining high service standards, operational compliance, and team performance.

This is a senior operational role requiring strong leadership, technical oversight, and the ability to manage multiple operational functions including fleet performance, workshops, staff, and service delivery across regions.

Key Responsibilities:

General Operational Management

  • Oversee overall operational performance across the national business
  • Monitor and control operational budgets and costs
  • Provide regular operational reporting and performance insights
  • Ensure smooth coordination of all operational business areas

Fleet & Service Operations

  • Ensure optimal productivity and utilisation of the coach fleet
  • Oversee daily operations including vehicle readiness and roadworthiness checks
  • Ensure adherence to service schedules and operational policies
  • Monitor fuel consumption, cleanliness, presentation, and general fleet standards
  • Drive continuous improvement in service reliability and operational efficiency
  • Manage incident handling, including investigations and corrective actions

Technical & Workshop Oversight

  • Ensure all vehicles are serviced according to scheduled maintenance plans
  • Maintain fleet reliability and technical compliance at all times
  • Oversee workshop operations, tools, equipment, and spare parts control
  • Manage tyre and stock control processes, including inventory accuracy
  • Ensure workshop cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness
  • Ensure staff are trained in technical, safety, and operational procedures
  • Enforce compliance with health, safety, and operational standards

Human Resource & Team Management

  • Manage workforce planning in line with operational requirements
  • Oversee recruitment, staffing levels, and scheduling
  • Ensure performance management processes are applied consistently
  • Handle employee relations and disciplinary matters in line with policy
  • Promote staff engagement, morale, and motivation
  • Identify training and development needs across operational teams
  • Ensure effective internal communication of goals and operational changes

Asset & Facility Management

  • Ensure all facilities, workshops, and equipment are maintained to required standards
  • Oversee cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of all sites
  • Ensure assets are properly maintained and serviced
  • Manage risk mitigation related to theft, damage, and operational downtime
  • Conduct regular stock and asset audits

Commercial & Operational Performance

  • Support revenue performance through efficient operational execution
  • Ensure on-time departures and arrivals across routes
  • Contribute to improving route profitability and operational efficiency
  • Support operational input into planning and performance improvements

Systems & Operational Controls

  • Ensure accurate and consistent use of operational systems and reporting tools
  • Maintain high standards of data accuracy and record keeping
  • Oversee operational tracking of fleet, maintenance, and inventory information
  • Ensure teams are trained and compliant in system usage and reporting processes

Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in transport, logistics, fleet, or large-scale operational environments
  • Degree or Diploma level preferred
  • Proven experience managing complex operational teams and multi-site operations
  • Strong background in fleet management, maintenance oversight, or technical operations
  • Experience managing budgets, operational performance, and service delivery
  • Exposure to workshop or technical operations strongly advantageous
  • Experience in a high-pressure, service-driven environment
