Job Summary
Position Summary
Norfolk Design & Construction is seeking an experienced and highly organized MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Coordinator to join our growing team. In this role, you will serve as the central point of coordination for all MEP systems across our commercial construction projects. You will work closely with general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and project managers to ensure MEP scopes are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Management
- Coordinate and oversee all MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems across commercial construction projects from pre-construction through project closeout.
- Review and interpret MEP drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs to ensure design intent is met in the field.
- Facilitate MEP coordination meetings with subcontractors, architects, and engineers to resolve conflicts and maintain schedule.
- Develop and maintain detailed MEP coordination logs, schedules, and milestone tracking documents.
- Manage the MEP submittal and shop drawing review process to ensure timely approvals.
Field Oversight & Quality Control
- Conduct regular site visits to inspect MEP installations for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Identify and resolve field conflicts between MEP trades using BIM coordination tools and clash detection software.
- Coordinate above-ceiling, in-wall, and underground rough-in inspections with inspectors and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Monitor MEP subcontractor progress and flag schedule or quality issues proactively.
Subcontractor & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between MEP subcontractors and the project management team.
- Review and manage MEP subcontractor change orders, pay applications, and scope of work delineation.
- Coordinate commissioning, startup, and testing activities for all MEP systems.
- Support owner training, turnover documentation, and O&M manual compilation at closeout.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records in Procore, including RFIs, submittals, punch lists, and daily logs.
- Prepare weekly MEP status reports and present updates to project leadership.
- Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and closeout documentation packages.
- Track and document MEP-related safety observations and inspections in accordance with OSHA standards.
Sustainability & High-Performance Building Standards
- Support the integration of energy-efficient MEP systems consistent with Passive House (PHIUS) and other high-performance building standards.
- Collaborate with design teams to coordinate sustainable MEP strategies, including heat pumps, ERVs, advanced mechanical ventilation, and solar-ready electrical infrastructure.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial construction with a focus on MEP coordination or MEP project management (Required)
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent or in a field leadership role (Preferred)
- Demonstrated experience coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems on projects valued at $5M or greater
- Experience with BIM/VDC MEP coordination and clash detection workflows
- Experience on commercial projects, mixed-use, multifamily, or affordable housing projects is a plus
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Procore construction management software — minimum 2 years required
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or equivalent BIM coordination tools
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for plan markup and document management
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, codes, and installation practices
- Familiarity with MA State Building Code (780 CMR), NFPA, NEC, and ASHRAE standards
Licenses & Certifications
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL) — Required
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification — Required (OSHA 30 preferred)
- LEED AP or PHIUS certification — a plus
Education
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and field experience will be considered
Other Requirements
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to Boston, MA prior to start date
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate across diverse teams
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
