The Centre for Lung Infection and Immunity is looking for a Research Medical Officer to join a dynamic research environment working on impactful clinical trials.
This role is offered under the University of Cape Town Lung Institute’s own employment terms and conditions, which are separate from UCT conditions of service.
⭐ What you bring:
- MBChB and current HPCSA registration
- At least 2 years’ experience as a sub-investigator in clinical trials
- Clinical experience in TB, HIV, COVID-19, or respiratory diseases
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
- Strong organisational, communication, and teamwork skills
- Confidence working with clinical data, systems, and reporting tools
➕ Advantageous experience:
- Participation in clinical trial audits
- Experience in a tertiary hospital setting
- Familiarity with REDCap and statistical software (STATA, R, SPSS, etc.)
- Additional language proficiency (Afrikaans and/or isi Xhosa)
Your clinical expertise will directly support research that improves patient outcomes and advances treatment for TB, HIV, and respiratory diseases.
What you’ll own:
- Clinical management and follow-up of trial participants
- Ensuring patient safety, including adverse event monitoring
- Supporting and coordinating clinical trial activities in line with GCP
- Contributing to study design, regulatory submissions, and reporting timelines
- Maintaining accurate, high-quality clinical and research data
- Collaborating with project teams, investigators, and clinical staff
- Supervising and supporting research staff where required
Role Information:
- Fixed Term Contract (12 Months)
- Monday to Friday | 40 hours per week
- Based across Groote Schuur Hospital, UCT Lung Institute (Mowbray), and associated sites
