The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is accepting applications for a permanent part-time Maintenance position in the Arts & Culture division. This permanent part-time position is for 0 to 30 hours per week.
Job Description
The Maintenance person in the Arts and Culture section of the Community, Culture & Connections division is responsible for maintaining the Chatham Cultural Centre and Chatham Capitol Theatre and assisting with setup and takedown for events in both buildings.
Essential Responsibilities
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Clean and maintain all public and staff areas of the Chatham Capitol Theatre and Chatham Cultural Centre including washrooms, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows and doors
- General maintenance of the facility (i.e. painting, general repairs, outdoor lawn care etc.)
- Assist in the preparation of set-up and clean-up for rentals in the Chatham Capitol Theatre and Chatham Cultural Centre by erecting tables and chairs, setting up projection equipment and ensuring the room ready for renters and programs
- Act as staff on duty during evening rentals and programs where full-time staff are not required or are otherwise occupied by another duty
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent education (e.g. GED certificate), with related experience
- Preference given to candidates with related maintenance and/or stagehand experience
- Experience with setting-up special events
- Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or other similar software program)
Other Qualifications
- Related post-secondary education an asset
- Experience with maintenance of small tools and equipment in a business/industrial environment an asset
- Experience with janitorial experience, including washrooms, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows and doors an asset
- Experience with general maintenance, including painting, general repairs, outdoor awn care, etc. an asset
Work environment/hours of work
- This position works both indoors and outdoors
- This position works weekday, evening and weekend hours
Driver’s Licence/vehicle Requirements
Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.
Background Check Requirements
Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check.
Essential Physical And/or Safety Requirements
- Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting, up to 200 pounds (90.72 kg) with team assistance
- Bending: frequent stooping (up to 9.09 kgs or 20 lbs) (vacuuming, lifting and setting up chairs tables, bags of trash)
- Walking: frequent walking on level surface (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) (cutting grass, carrying boxes, carrying chairs, carrying garbage bags)
- Reaching: frequent reaching below shoulder, forward (filling mop pails, boxes off shelves, cleaning)
- Standing: frequent standing inside (on feet most of shift)
- Hands: frequent gripping (mopping, pruning, vacuuming)
Benefits
This permanent part-time position has an hourly wage of $18.03 to $18.54 will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
