Job Overview
The Logistics Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient planning, coordination, and execution of international logistics activities supporting the group’s operations. The role ensures that equipment, materials, and assets are mobilised and demobilised in compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and company management systems, while leading logistics teams across multiple countries.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and manage international logistics operations, encompassing both offshore and onshore activities across all regions.
- Ensure the timely and cost-effective transportation of equipment and materials via air, sea and land freight.
- Oversee the mobilisation and demobilisation of drilling production, subsea and project equipment across global operations.
- Lead, develop and support a team of logistics professionals operating across multiple countries and time zones.
- Communicate logistics plans, priorities and risks clearly to project, operations and senior management stakeholders.
- Ensure full compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements and country-specific legislation across all operational jurisdictions.
- Select, manage and performance-manage logistics service providers, freight forwarders and in-country agents.
- Drive the continuous improvement of logistics processes, procedures and systems to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Develop and implement global logistics strategies aligned with business objectives, ensuring consistency and standardisation across all regions.
- Act as the primary escalation point for logistics challenges across all regions, providing guidance and decisive support to regional and country logistics leads.
- Establish and promote best practices across all global logistics teams, ensuring a unified operational approach regardless of geography.
- Monitor and report on key logistics performance indicators (KPIs), identifying trends and holding regional teams accountable to agreed service levels.
- Oversee logistics risk management, ensuring robust contingency plans are in place for supply chain disruptions, geopolitical risks and operational delays.
- Collaborate with stores, finance and project teams to align logistics planning with project timelines, budgets and commercial requirements.
- Champion the adoption of logistics technologies and digital tools to improve operational visibility, reporting and overall efficiency across the global team.
Qualifications:
- Matric or Equivalent
Experience:
- Eight to ten years’ experience in Logistics, preferably a leadership role within the Oil and gas sector.
- Demonstrate experience managing international logistics operations.
Skills:
The following are the minimum skills required to perform the function:
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate and develop logistics teams operating across multiple countries and time zones.
- Strong understanding of international freight and logistics operations, including the shipment of hazardous goods in compliance with IATA, IMDG and relevant international regulations.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, senior stakeholders and external service providers.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, with strong organisational skills and sound judgement under pressure.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, as well as logistics management and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret KPI data, identify trends and drive performance improvements across a global team.
- Solid understanding of international trade regulations, customs requirements and country-specific logistics legislation.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with logistics service providers, freight forwarders and in-country agents across diverse regions.
