About the Role
We are looking to expand our pool of Locum Dental Assistants with orthodontic experience to provide support at our Fourways practice on an ad hoc, as-needed basis. This role is ideal for a qualified Dental Assistant seeking flexible locum opportunities while working in a professional, patient-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms and escort patients for appointments.
- Take and update medical and dental histories.
- Provide chairside assistance using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Assist with orthodontic procedures, including bracket placement, archwire changes, ligatures, and cephalometric tracings.
- Prepare and sterilize instruments while maintaining strict infection prevention and control standards.
- Assist with treatment planning, patient records, appointment confirmations, and medical aid authorizations.
- Monitor stock levels of dental materials, instruments, and consumables.
- Liaise with dental laboratories and assist with theatre scheduling where required.
- Ensure compliance with practice protocols, HPCSA requirements, and infection control standards.
Requirements
- Certificate in Dental Assisting (or equivalent).
- Active HPCSA registration (essential).
- Previous experience in a general dental practice.
- Orthodontic assisting experience (essential).
- Sound knowledge of infection prevention and sterilization procedures.
- Experience with four-handed chairside assisting.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel).
- Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different clinical environments.
