Role Description
We are building a large-scale infrastructure platform and are looking for an experienced engineer to lead our automation efforts. You will own the strategy, rollout, and ongoing development of the automation layer that takes over once a bare VM has been provisioned, turning raw infrastructure infrastructure into fully configured, continuously maintained systems.
This is a hands-on role with technical leadership responsibilities. Initially, you will work as part of—and help shape—a small team, with the opportunity to grow the function over time. You will set the direction for how we approach configuration management and OS lifecycle automation across both our modern platform and our legacy environments.
What you will do
- Lead the rollout and evolution of our Ansible-based automation platform, picking up where infrastructure provisioning leaves off—covering OS configuration, patch management, and software installation and configuration driven by declarative YAML resources.
- Define the abstraction layer between high-level declarative intent (YAML resources) and the underlying Ansible execution, enabling platform users to describe what they want rather than how it should be implemented.
- Integrate automation seamlessly into the provisioning workflow, ensuring a smooth handoff from VM provisioning to configuration management.
- Modernize and manage legacy environments using Ansible, leveraging AWX and/or GitOps-based approaches for orchestration, inventory management, and continuous reconciliation.
- Establish standards and best practices for idempotency, testing, rollout safety, and patch management across the fleet.
- Mentor and guide other engineers on the team, helping to grow the platform automation capability as it scales.
- Collaborate closely with platform, security, and operations teams, translating business and technical requirements into a coherent automation strategy.
What we are looking for
Must-Haves
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or related roles, with a strong focus on production systems and automation.
- Strong, demonstrable experience operating Ansible at scale in production environments, including roles, collections, dynamic inventory, and idempotent automation design.
- Solid systems engineering experience, including Linux administration, OS lifecycle management and patching, networking fundamentals, and the operational realities of managing large VM fleets.
- A strong sense of abstraction, with the ability to design clean, declarative interfaces and reusable building blocks rather than one-off solutions.
- Experience leading technical initiatives, including owning architecture, setting technical direction, and mentoring or guiding other engineers.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Professional-level spoken and written English (mandatory).
Nice to have
- Experience with AWX / Ansible Automation Platform and/or GitOps workflows (e.g. Argo CD, Flux, or similar tools).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes-based infrastructure and control-plane tooling (e.g. Crossplane).
- Experience maintaining and modernizing legacy infrastructure and systems.
- Familiarity with declarative, YAML-driven configuration models and infrastructure-as-code practices in general.
