The VUKA Research Clinic is looking for a Laboratory Technologist to support laboratory operations in a fast-paced research environment focused on infectious diseases.
This role is offered under the University of Cape Town Lung Institute’s own employment terms and conditions, which are separate from UCT conditions of service.
POSITION INFO:
â What you bring:
- Qualification as a Laboratory Technologist (BTech / BSc Medical Bioscience or equivalent)
- Active HPCSA registration
- At least 1 year of laboratory experience (clinical, research, or academic)
- Current SA-GCP certification
- Strong organisational, numeracy, and communication skills
- Confidence working with data and maintaining confidentiality
Your technical expertise will support high-quality laboratory processes that underpin reliable research outcomes.
ð What you’ll own:
- Performing protocol-required and clinically indicated laboratory assays
- Receiving, processing, and preparing specimens with precision
- Managing the storage, shipping, and tracking samples
- Ensuring timely and accurate documentation and reporting of results
- Supporting data quality through query resolution and record-keeping
- Maintaining laboratory equipment, consumables, and stock levels
- Following and upholding strict laboratory safety and compliance standards
- Collaborating with clinical teams, labs, and study stakeholders.
Your work will directly support the accuracy and integrity of research data used to improve patient care and outcomes.
