Job Advert Summary
Eduvos is looking to hire the services of a Laboratory Technician Laboratory Technician (with Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) experience) [Independent Contractor] at our Parc du Cap/ Tyger Valley campus on a part-time basis.
Type of appointment:
Independent Contractor (part-time; flexible workhours agreement)
Purpose:
- To prepare and clean up after practical sessions, to support lecturers in the implementation of practicals and to assist students in technical applications on a part-time (contractual) basis.
- To facilitate the compliance to health and safety requirements of the science laboratories, thereby maintaining a hazard-free laboratory environment; and to fulfil the
role of a laboratory technician.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum qualifications required:
- BSc : Biological Sciences or any related field
- BSc Honours in Chemistry
- Relevant 3-year degree in Occupational hygiene or environmental health
Experience:
- Experience within a science laboratory and ability to prepare reagents and operate scientific equipment
- Competency in basic computer processing skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Experience within a science laboratory and ability to prepare reagents and operate scientific equipment
- Planning, troubleshooting and implementing laboratory activities independently
- Proficient verbal and written English communication skills
- Physically capacity to participate in day to day housekeeping activities which includes carrying heavy items up to 25kg, climbing ladders etc

Responsibilities:

As the Laboratory Technician you will be primarily responsible for the following:
- SHE Officer (60%) and Laboratory Technician (40%
- Assisting the lecturers during the preparation and implementation of practical sessions including health and safety, student discipline and good laboratory practices
- Supporting the Laboratory Manager with regular procedures during the maintenance and operation of the laboratories and ancillary areas
- Practical administration such as monitoring student registers and station allocations.
- Laboratory maintenance including labware, asset and consumables inventories, general housekeeping, and incident reporting
- General assistance to the department as required including invigilation, marketing days or other ad-hoc projects
