About The Position
The Laboratory Technician (Chemistry) will ensure analysis of accurate results using resources available within a stipulated turnaround time.
The Position Will Be Responsible For
- Perform routine analytical tasks and troubleshooting on laboratory instrumentation and apparatus.
- To perform general and routine analyses by instrumental or "wet" methods according to standard procedures.
- Preparation of calibration, QC solutions and other laboratory reagents as per procedure
- Ensure that all reagents used are appropriately prepared, tested and verified before use.
- To carry out calibration / verification checks on apparatus before use.
- Ensure that analyses are conducted according to documented procedures and quality control measure are applied.
- Understanding and evaluation of sample QC related issues on laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Maintaining all QA/QC documents for laboratory instrument monitoring are completed.
- Maintain appropriate levels of critical laboratory spares and consumables to reduce instrument downtime.
- Assisting with any laboratory/quality related tasks as assigned by the Site or Quality Manager.
- Report all instrument failures and faults on time to the Lab Supervisor to minimize break down time.
- Ensure that work is done in accordance with all appropriate health, safety and environmental procedures and policies
- To calculate results of analyses and report them to the Laboratory Supervisor.
- To ensure that proper accommodation and environment is maintained in the testing area as per the requirements of ISO 17025 standard.
- To investigate and assist with corrective action reports and ensure they are submitted in a timeous manner.
- To ensure that the preventive maintenance schedule and intermediate checks schedule for all the instruments are performed.
- To ensure optimum use of available resources.
- To ensure that the proper records are maintained at all stages of testing and ensuring the validity of results.
- To ensure safe and proper handling of the samples / materials throughout the laboratory.
Requirements:
- A Minimum of a Chemistry/Science Diploma or Degree from a recognised University or Institution preferably a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or relevant tertiary qualification.
- Minimum 1 year experience in an analytical laboratory / environment.
- Fluent in English (written and oral)
- Ability to investigate, resolve and respond to queries.
- Ability to multitask and meet challenging deadlines/priorities.
- Ability to work under pressure.
