An exciting opportunity has become available for a Laboratory Assistant to join our team, specializing in value-added meat products.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Technical Department is seeking a professional, detailed-oriented, and motivated Laboratory Assistant to support laboratory operations and quality assurance activities. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining food safety, quality and hygiene standards while ensuring compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Diploma in one of the following fields:
- Food Technology
- Food Science
- Microbiology
- Biotechnology
- Or a related scientific qualification
- Previous laboratory experience in a food manufacturing environment will be advantageous
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food safety, hygiene and contamination control practices
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to details
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Professional conduct with good attendance and disciplinary record
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when operationally required
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct routine laboratory sampling and testing activities
- Prepare laboratory media, reagents and testing equipment
- Perform environmental and hygiene swabbing within factory
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records
- Ensure laboratory equipment is cleaned, maintained and stored correctly
- Support food safety and quality assurance verification activities
- Assist with investigations relating to product or process non-conformances
- Maintain housekeeping and hygiene standards within the laboratory
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and safety requirements
