The Project Management team forms part of MSD’s Operations function under operational leadership.
Location
Based in Sandton – MSD Offices, 100 West Street, Sandton, Johannesburg
(Full-time, office-based role)
Functional collaboration with: Internal Magic Space Dust (MSD) leadership, external consultants, municipalities, and regulatory authorities.
Role Purpose
The Junior Project Manager supports the delivery of MSD’s technical, permitting, design and construction programmes through structured coordination, stakeholder management and process oversight.
The role combines project administration with early-stage project management responsibilities, including consultant coordination, authority engagement, and active tracking of project progress to ensure delivery against timelines and requirements.
The role supports both technical and project management functions within MSD’s operations, contributing directly to the delivery of infrastructure and permitting projects.
Key Responsibilities
1.Planning & Project Setup
- Support the Project Manager in defining project scope, key milestones, and delivery timelines.
- Assist in developing initial project trackers, permitting strategies and coordination plans.
- Compile preliminary information required for project initiation (site details, authority requirements, consultant inputs).
2.Project Readiness
- Coordinate early-stage inputs required before formal project initiation, including:
- Availability and onboarding of consultants
- Collection of baseline project information and documentation from respective Account Managers
- Alignment of project folder structures, trackers, and systems
- Ensure all administrative and coordination elements are in place to enable efficient project execution.
3.Initiation & Consultant Engagement
- Identify and engage suitable consultants and service providers.
- Issue Request for Quotations (RFQs) and coordinate the procurement of quotations.
- Support evaluation of proposals and highlight commercial or technical risks.
- Assist with preparation and issuance of appointment letters and onboarding documentation.
4.Procurement & Authority Interface
- Coordinate with appointed consultants and support submission of applications to authorities.
- Actively engage municipalities and regulatory bodies to:
- Track submission progress
- Obtain feedback and requirements
- Clarify procedures and timelines
- Maintain structured logs of all authority interactions and submission references.
5.Execution (Design, Permitting & Coordination)
- Coordinate day-to-day project activities across consultants and stakeholders.
- Track delivery of design inputs, reports, and submission documentation.
- Ensure alignment between consultant outputs and project requirements.
- Support resolution of coordination issues by escalating risks and proposing solutions.
6.Monitoring & Control
- Maintain and actively update project management systems (ClickUp, Smartsheet, etc.).
- Track:
- Milestones and deadlines
- Consultant deliverables
- Dependencies and risks
- Identify delays or risks early and escalate with clear status summaries and recommendations.
- Ensure consistency across trackers, reports, and document repositories.
7.Close-Out & Handover Support
- Track final approvals, permits, and completion documentation.
- Ensure all project records are complete, accurate, and properly filed.
- Support compilation of close-out documentation and handover packs.
- Ensure all administrative deliverables are audit-ready and easily retrievable.
8.Cross-Cutting Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule meetings with consultants and authorities.
- Prepare agendas, capture action items, and drive follow-ups.
- Maintain professional communication with all stakeholders.
- Provide structured updates to the Project Manager on progress, risks, and required decisions.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical & Systems Skills
- Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar)
- Experience with project management tools (ClickUp, Smartsheet, Asana or similar)
- Understanding of project lifecycles, particularly in permitting and design phases (Advantageous)
- Strong document control and tracking capability

Experience & Qualifications
- 2–5 years’ experience in project coordination, project administration, or junior project management.
- Exposure to permitting, infrastructure, or built environment projects is preferred but not a dealbreaker.
- Experience working with consultants and public-sector authorities is preferred but not a dealbreaker.
- Qualification in Project Management, Built Environment, or related field (advantageous).
