Role Description The Junior Operations Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Cape Town, South Africa.
We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Junior Operations Assistant to support our trading operations team in Cape Town. This role is ideal for a graduate or someone early in their career who wants to build hands-on experience in commodity trading operations, shipping, logistics, documentation, and execution support. You will work closely with the operations team and a range of internal and external stakeholders to help ensure that shipments, documents, and operational processes are managed accurately and on time.
What you will do
· Support the day-to-day execution of shipments across containerised and bulk cargo operations.
· Assist with shipping schedules, stock trackers, logistics updates, and operational reporting.
· Prepare, check, collate, and distribute trade and shipping documentation.
· Help review operational documents such as inspection reports, assay certificates, weight notes, and shipping documents.
· Support the preparation and checking of Letter of Credit and contract-related documentation.
· Assist with invoice checks, supporting documents, and operational cost tracking.
· Communicate with logistics providers, agents, warehouses, surveyors, customers, and suppliers to support smooth execution.
· Maintain accurate filing, templates, records, and document control processes.
· Provide general administrative and operational support to the broader operations team.
What we are looking for
· A recent graduate or candidate with up to 1–2 years’ experience in operations, logistics, shipping, freight forwarding, administration, or a related environment.
· Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, follow up proactively, and work to deadlines.
· Comfortable working with spreadsheets, trackers, and operational documentation.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Professional and confident when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
· A strong willingness to learn and an interest in commodity trading, shipping and international operations.

Reporting line
· Reports to: Operations Manager
· Works closely with: Operations team, Senior Trader, Finance team, and external logistics and service providers.
