Duties/Pligte

  • Conducting preliminary assessments of complaints, including gathering and reviewing evidence, interviewing complainants and respondents, and drafting investigation reports.
  • Monitoring investigation progress and ensuring compliance with University policies and legislation.
  • Providing legal advice and drafting legal correspondence and advisory opinions.
  • Designing and delivering workshops on discrimination, harassment, gender-based violence, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Facilitating mediation in appropriate cases using accredited mediation practices.
  • Maintaining secure case records and ensuring confidentiality and regulatory compliance.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

Qualifications:
  • Relevant LLB degree or equivalent.
Experience:
  • At least three years’ post-article experience or four years’ relevant legal work experience.
  • Experience in interpreting legislation and handling cases involving discrimination, harassment or victimisation.
  • Experience in legal research, policy review and advisory functions.
Skills and competencies:
  • Strong investigative, analytical and legal research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • The ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to equality and non-discrimination.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • Mediation accreditation (Law Society of South Africa or equivalent) will be advantageous.
