MIT is looking for a Junior IT Support Technician to join our IT Support & Infrastructure team. This is an entry-level technical role focused on first-line support, system checks, and hands-on exposure to enterprise IT environments, with potential development pathways into more advanced technical roles.

You’ll provide first-line IT support across our office, warehouse, and dispatch environments. Your focus will be on resolving standard user issues, performing routine system checks, supporting IT assets, and escalating risks correctly — all within defined procedures and under guidance from senior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide reliable Level 1 helpdesk support and resolve standard user issues
  • Perform daily and weekly operational IT checks and log findings accurately
  • Support desktop, device, and Windows 10/11 environments using standard builds
  • Assist with user access management (Active Directory / Entra ID / Microsoft 365)
  • Support basic network and infrastructure tasks under supervision
  • Assist with IT asset deployment, tracking, and inventory updates
  • Support backup, security, and system monitoring activities
  • Follow SOPs, maintain documentation, and escalate issues appropriately

What you need to know (foundational knowledge)

  • IT support principles, ticket logging, SLAs, and escalation
  • End-user computing environments and how IT supports business operations
  • Basic IT security concepts (access control, MFA, endpoint protection)
  • Basic networking concepts (connectivity, IP addressing, Wi‑Fi)
  • IT asset lifecycle concepts and documentation discipline
  • The importance of confidentiality, data protection, and process compliance

Technical Skills (you don’t need to be an expert yet)

  • Logging, tracking, and resolving Level 1 IT support tickets
  • Installing and configuring Windows 10 / 11 workstations
  • Troubleshooting basic hardware, software, and peripheral issues
  • Creating and managing user accounts under approved processes
  • Supporting Microsoft 365 user services (mailboxes, licences, distribution lists)
  • Monitoring dashboards and escalating alerts with clear diagnostics
  • Assisting with backups and restores under guidance

Minimum Requirements

Mandatory

  • FET Certificate: Information Technology / End User Computing (NQF 4)
  • or
  • National Certificate: Information Technology / End User Computing (NQF 4)

Advantageous (not required)

  • CompTIA ITF+ / A+ / Network+
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ‑900)
  • Microsoft 365 Fundamentals (MS‑900)
  • Entry-level security exposure (e.g. Sophos fundamentals)
