Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Bookkeeper to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full bookkeeping function of the business, including debtors, creditors, payroll administration, VAT submissions, and general financial administration.

The role is centred around the use of Sage Accounting, and the successful candidate will be expected to confidently manage day-to-day financial processing using Sage systems.

This position is ideal for someone with solid bookkeeping experience who is looking to grow within a supportive and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping

  • Process and capture all financial transactions accurately and timeously in Sage Accounting.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all accounts are properly reconciled.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end reporting and financial procedures.
  • Prepare financial reports for management when required.

Debtors Management

  • Generate and issue customer invoices.
  • Monitor outstanding accounts and follow up on overdue payments.
  • Reconcile debtor accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records.

Creditors Management

  • Capture supplier invoices and credit notes in Sage Accounting.
  • Perform creditor reconciliations.
  • Ensure suppliers are paid according to agreed terms.
  • Resolve supplier queries and discrepancies.

Payroll Administration

  • Process monthly payroll accurately and on time.
  • Maintain employee payroll records.
  • Process leave, overtime, deductions, and adjustments.
  • Assist with statutory payroll submissions.
  • Sage Payroll experience will be highly advantageous.

VAT and Compliance

  • Prepare VAT reconciliations and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with VAT submissions to SARS.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant tax and financial regulations.
  • Maintain proper records for audit and compliance purposes.

General Administration

  • Maintain organised financial filing systems (digital and/or physical).
  • Assist with audit preparation and documentation requests.
  • Support management with ad hoc financial and administrative tasks.
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and service providers when required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Certificate, Diploma, or qualification in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. (Experience will count more than a certificate)
  • 1–3 years’ bookkeeping experience.
  • Strong, practical experience using Sage Accounting is essential.
  • Experience processing payroll and general payroll administration.
  • Solid understanding of bookkeeping functions including debtors, creditors, and reconciliations.
  • Experience preparing VAT reconciliations and assisting with VAT submissions.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Sage Payroll.
  • Experience with SARS eFiling and statutory submissions.
  • Knowledge of South African payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working in a small to medium-sized business environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Remuneration

Salary will be market-related and based on qualifications, skills, and experience.

Pay: R10 000,00 – R14 500,00 per month
