Role Overview
To support production operations by assisting with machine setting, changeovers, and basic troubleshooting on blow moulding machines. The role requires foundational technical skills similar to a Setter, with a focus on learning and supporting rather than full accountability for all setting functions. Exposure to injection moulding will be advantageous.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Machine Setting & Changeovers
- Assist with setting up blow moulding machines for production runs
- Support mould changes, start-ups, and shutdown procedures
- Adjust basic machine parameters under supervision (temperature, pressure, timing)
- Ensure machines are set according to production and quality requirements
Production Support
- Monitor machine performance and report deviations
- Assist in achieving production targets and minimising downtime
- Support operators with technical guidance where required
- Ensure smooth handovers between shifts
Quality Control
- Conduct basic quality checks in line with specifications
- Identify and report defects or inconsistencies
- Assist in implementing corrective actions under guidance
Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks
- Assist maintenance team during breakdowns
- Ensure machines and work areas are kept clean and safe
Health & Safety
- Adhere to all safety standards and procedures
- Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately
- Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Grade 12 / Matric (essential)
- Technical qualification (N2–N4 or equivalent) in Mechanical / Plastics Manufacturing (advantageous)
- 2–3 years’ experience in a plastic manufacturing environment
- Exposure to blow moulding processes (essential)
- Basic understanding of injection moulding (advantageous)
- Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of both a competency-based assessment and a practical evaluation.
- Appointment to this role is subject to clear criminal record
