We’re looking for an experienced Interior Designer to join our architecture team in Johannesburg.
The purpose of the Interior Designer role is to provide professional interior design services across all project stages, from conceptual development through to construction documentation and installation. The role is responsible for producing high-quality design solutions, drawings, specifications, and detailing aligned with company standards, project objectives, client expectations, and budget requirements.
The Interior Designer will collaborate closely with internal teams, consultants, suppliers, and contractors to ensure successful project delivery while maintaining the highest standards of design excellence, functionality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce and coordinate high-quality interior design concepts, drawings, specifications, detailing, and construction documentation across all project phases.
- Participate in internal, consultant, supplier, and client meetings, providing project feedback, design support, and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, ethics, departmental standards, and established architectural and interior design drawing standards.
- Monitor project progress, manage workloads and timelines, identify risks or bottlenecks, and communicate solutions proactively to management and project teams.
- Conduct site investigations, quality control inspections, and research to ensure construction quality, design intent, and project standards are maintained during implementation.
- Review project budgets, supplier proposals, materials, finishes, and construction methodologies to ensure cost-effective, functional, and design-aligned solutions.
- Coordinate with Procurement, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure accurate interpretation of specifications, shop drawings, FF&E, OS&E, and related documentation.
- Prepare and manage project-related documentation including RFIs, Site Instructions, as-built drawings, operations manuals, warranties, guarantees, and presentations for management approval.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and vendors while demonstrating professionalism, technical expertise, and effective communication.
- Commit to continuous professional development by participating in training, conducting industry research, and staying informed on international design trends, technologies, materials, and best practices.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
- Undergraduate Degree in Interior Design or related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Interior Design or a related environment
- Experience in producing technical drawings, detailing, specifications, and construction documentation
- Experience coordinating with consultants, suppliers, contractors, and procurement teams
- Exposure to hospitality, luxury residential, commercial, or high-end interior design projects will be advantageous
- Experience working with BIM and industry-standard design software will be advantageous
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Strong attention to detail and time management
- South African citizen or valid South African work permit
