Job Advert Summary

The primary duty of the Innovation Consultant (Technology) is to identify, evaluate and manage the development of innovative engineering and technology solutions to enhance Rand Water’s operational performance, resilience and competitiveness. The role focuses on assessing new technologies, managing innovation programmes and supporting the implementation of solutions that add value to the organisation’s core water services.

Primary Duties

• Identify, evaluate and implement emerging technologies across the water value chain.
• Develop business cases and roadmaps for technology adoption and scaling.
• Pilot and validate new solutions, ensuring alignment with operational and business needs.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams including engineering, operations, and IT teams to pilot, test, scale, and embed smart technologies
• Evaluate emerging technologies related to water treatment, engineering, energy, and infrastructure systems.
• Facilitate the generation, screening and development of innovative solutions.
• Monitor global trends and benchmark best practices in smart technologies and infrastructure.
• Develop partnerships with research institutions, suppliers, and technology developers.
• Manage project resources, budgets, and governance frameworks.
• Engage stakeholders and build a culture of innovation across the organization

Knowledge

• Knowledge of engineering principles in water, wastewater, energy, or related sectors
• Understanding of innovation management frameworks, tools, and methodologies
• Knowledge of emerging technologies (e.g., digital transformation, AI, smart infrastructure, Industry 4.0/5.0)
• Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., PMBOK, Agile)
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and standards in the water and or engineering sector
