Imports & Exports Controller
Location: Boksburg, Gauteng
Job Summary
Oath Recruitment is seeking an experienced Imports & Exports Controller within the mining and heavy engineering industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing import and export processes, customs compliance, freight forwarding coordination, shipping documentation, and cost optimisation to ensure the efficient movement of goods across borders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage import and export processes, including customs clearing and shipping coordination
- Ensure accurate tariff classifications, HS codes, duties, VAT, and customs documentation
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, suppliers, and internal stakeholdersMonitor shipping schedules, lead times, and supplier deliveries
- Handle import/export permits, trade agreements, and Incoterms compliance
- Investigate shipping cost discrepancies and ensure cost-effective transportation solutions
- Maintain shipment records, audit documentation, and reporting databases
- Ensure timely pre-clearing of shipments to avoid customs delays
- Support production and branch operations with urgent shipping requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and shipping agents
Requirements
- National Certificate or Diploma in: International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Import & Export Management, Freight Forwarding, Business Administration (with trade exposure)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within Import / Export industries
- Strong customs clearing and freight forwarding knowledge
- Understanding of Incoterms® 2020, HS Codes, Duties, VAT, and Customs Documentation
- Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, and ExcelStrong administrative, problem-solving, and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Mining industry experience advantageous
