Position: IBM DB2 Support Specialist
Gauteng, Tshwane (Pretoria)
The successful candidates will play a key role in administering, monitoring, optimising and supporting DB2 database environments within a complex, high-availability mainframe environment. This opportunity is ideal for seasoned DB2 professionals seeking to contribute to a large-scale transformation programme.
This is a 24-month fixed term contract role.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a DB2 DBA in an IBM z/OS environment
Experience in a production support environment on z/OS DB2
Strong knowledge of Mainframe (MVS), DB2 for z/OS, SQL, CICS, JCL, Windows OS
Experience with database administration, monitoring, performance tuning, backup/recovery and configuration management
Ability to analyse DB2 transaction logs for auditing, troubleshooting, recovery and performance monitoring
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Skills
DB2 v11 / v12 / v13 certification
Knowledge of DB2 tools such as DB2 Query Monitor, SQL Performance Analyser, DB2 Administrator Tool, DB2 Log Analysis Tool, QMF, CICS Debug Tool, TMON
SQL and/or Rexx scripting
Basic AIX/Linux administration
Experience with automation scripts

Knowledge of SDLC
, technical design and documentation
Duties / Deliverables
Install, configure, upgrade and support IBM DB2 databases and log analysis tools
Monitor database performance, tune queries and maintain database objects
Use IBM DB2 Log Analyser to track DDL/DML changes
, audit activity and generate compliance reports
Support backup, recovery, restoration and disaster recovery processes
Analyse logs to resolve incidents, identify root causes and improve performance
Generate and execute JCL jobs for reporting, recovery and data loading
Maintain database security, access control, encryption and audit trails
Perform routine server maintenance and ensure systems remain updated and secure
Provide knowledge transfer and documentation to support smooth handover to the client team
