Job Highlight
The intern will be expected to energetically engage in the support of HR tasks and to selectively drive particular work items on their own.
The internship opportunity is open to both Local (Kenyan nationals) and International (non-Kenyan nationals), who will be based in Nairobi, Kenya for the duration of the assignment.
Role Purpose
The role is ideal for a motivated individual interested in human resources, organizational culture, gender equality, safeguarding, inclusion, and people-focused development initiatives.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Their responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Supporting the implementation and monitoring of the ESAMCO DEI Strategy Action Plan.
- Assisting with PSEAH, Gender, DEI, and related working groups within UNOPS and the broader UN community.
- Supporting awareness campaigns, engagement activities, workshops, and learning initiatives related to inclusion, safeguarding, gender equality, and workplace culture.
- Assisting in tracking and following up on action plans arising from Culture and Engagement Surveys, Learning and Development Plans, and similar organizational initiatives.
- Supporting data collection, reporting, meeting coordination, documentation, and communication activities.
- Contributing to initiatives that promote an inclusive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
- Follow up on classification of ToRs.
- Checking format and quality of ToRs to ensure proper grammar and format is used in advertisements before they are posted.
- Conducting and following up on reference checks.
- Ensuring completion of mandatory courses by personnel.
- Processing interview reports and other HR reports where appropriate.
- Follow up on approvals for contract extensions.
- Follow up on budget lines with hiring units during recruitment.
- Liaising with the 3rd party recruitment agency on issuance of contracts and contract extensions.
- Logistical assistance in planning, organizing and preparation of interviews, trainings and other relevant events.
- Support the identification and documentation of best practices and lessons learnt, including coordination and organization-wide implementation of knowledge sharing and documentation methodologies.
- Maintenance of personnel records for all personnel.
- Maintenance of training database.
- Provide assistance in the longlisting and shortlisting process, as guided by the supervisor
Education Requirements
Required:
- The applicant should have completed a Minimum First level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in Human Resources, Gender studies, Development studies, Business Administration or a related field, or be enrolled in a postgraduate program or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the start date of the intern assignment.

- While no prior work experience is required, some experience in gender development related work, human resources, organizational culture, gender equality, safeguarding, inclusion, and people-focused development initiatives or related fields would be an asset.
