We are seeking a highly capable Hotel Operations General Manager to lead the day-to-day hotel operations of the property, with a strong focus on guest experience, service excellence, operational consistency, departmental accountability, and team leadership.

About the Role

The Hotel Operations General Manager will be responsible for the daily operational performance of the hotel side of the business, ensuring that rooms, restaurants, and culinary operations work together seamlessly to deliver a polished, warm, and professional guest experience.

This role is suited to a balanced luxury hospitality operator with strong experience across rooms, food and beverage, culinary coordination, guest service, and people leadership.

A key part of this role will be to drive Excellence across the departments reporting into the position, ensuring that every guest-facing area operates with consistency, polish, accountability, and a clear commitment to continuous improvement.

The role will report directly to the CEO and will work closely with the broader leadership team to uphold standards, improve service delivery, and ensure operational Excellence across the guest-facing hospitality departments.

Direct Reports

The Hotel Operations General Manager will directly oversee:

  • Rooms Division Manager
  • Senior Restaurant Manager
  • Executive Chef

Please note: this role focuses on hotel operations, guest experience, rooms, restaurants, and culinary performance. Gardens, maintenance, mechanical, and security functions are managed separately.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading the day-to-day hotel operations across rooms, restaurants, and culinary departments
  • Driving a culture of Excellence across all departments reporting into the role, ensuring that service standards, guest experience, staff presentation, operational discipline, and departmental performance are consistently elevated
  • Ensuring a seamless and consistent guest experience across all hospitality touchpoints
  • Driving luxury boutique service standards throughout the operation
  • Providing visible, hands-on leadership during peak service periods
  • Supporting the Rooms Division Manager in maintaining accommodation, guest relations, housekeeping, and front office standards
  • Supporting the Senior Restaurant Manager in maintaining restaurant service standards, guest satisfaction, and team performance
  • Working closely with the Executive Chef to ensure culinary quality, consistency, timing, and service alignment
  • Ensuring strong communication and coordination between rooms, restaurants, kitchen, and other operational teams
  • Monitoring guest feedback, complaints, online reviews, and service recovery opportunities
  • Holding department heads accountable for Excellence in execution, consistency, cleanliness, guest interaction, service recovery, team conduct, and daily operational readiness
  • Identifying gaps in departmental Excellence and implementing practical corrective actions, coaching, training, and follow-through
  • Driving accountability, discipline, and professional standards among department heads
  • Ensuring staffing levels, service flow, and departmental readiness are aligned to business demand
  • Maintaining a strong floor presence during key guest periods, including weekends, weddings, public holidays, and peak trading times
  • Supporting a positive, professional, guest-focused team culture
  • Reporting operational performance, risks, challenges, Excellence gaps, and improvement opportunities to the CEO

  • Emotionally intelligent, especially in guest-facing and high-pressure hospitality situations
  • Passionate about Excellence, consistency, service culture, and continuous improvement

This role is suited to someone who thrives in a boutique luxury environment. It is not suited to someone looking for a purely office-based or corporate-style management position.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Minimum 8 years’ hospitality experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a senior hotel operations role
  • Strong experience in rooms and food and beverage operations
  • Previous boutique, luxury hotel, lodge, or wedding-focused hospitality experience preferred
  • Proven ability to lead department heads and operational teams
  • Strong guest relations and service recovery skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership ability
  • Strong understanding of service standards, operational flow, and guest experience
  • Ability to work flexible senior management hours according to operational requirements

Working Hours and Availability

This is a senior operational leadership role requiring flexibility, visible leadership during peak service periods, and availability over weekends, public holidays, weddings, and high-demand hospitality periods.

Package

R55,000 – R65,000 CTC per month, depending on experience and suitability.
