Horticulturist
Position Overview
We are a large design/build construction firm specializing in landscape construction and maintenance services. We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Horticulturist to join our growing team. This role is responsible for supporting the health, appearance, and long-term success of landscape installations and maintenance operations through expert plant knowledge, diagnostics, and field support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant identification, soil and turf health, pest and disease management, and ornamental landscape care.
This position will work closely with operations, account managers, crews, and clients to ensure high-quality horticultural practices across commercial and residential properties.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate the health and quality of trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, and turf
- Diagnose plant health issues, including pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress
- Develop treatment recommendations and maintenance plans
- Conduct property inspections and provide horticultural guidance to field teams
- Assist with plant selection, seasonal color design, and landscape enhancement recommendations
- Support irrigation and soil management practices to improve plant health
- Train and mentor crews on proper pruning, planting, watering, mulching, and horticultural best practices
- Work with account managers and clients to address landscape concerns and provide recommendations
- Monitor and ensure quality standards are maintained across properties
- Assist with estimating enhancement opportunities related to horticultural improvements
- Stay current on industry trends, plant materials, and best management practices
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company standards
Qualifications
- Minimum of [10] years of horticulture or landscape industry experience
- Strong knowledge of plant identification and regional growing conditions
- Experience diagnosing plant health and pest issues
- Knowledge of fertilizers, soil health, irrigation practices, and integrated pest management
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with operations teams
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Industry certifications such as ISA, NJ Certified Pesticide Applicator, or similar are a plus
Education Requirements:
- B.A./B.S. in Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management, or related field preferred

SCHEDULE:
· Monday – Friday and Saturdays during peak season (March–June & October–November)
