Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented High Voltage / Substation Estimator to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for high voltage electrical substations, ensuring competitive pricing while maintaining compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Your expertise will support project planning, bidding processes, and contract negotiations, contributing directly to the successful execution of complex electrical infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong construction estimating skills, electrical experience, and a comprehensive understanding of project management principles within the utility or heavy construction sectors.
Duties
- Develop detailed cost estimates for high voltage substation projects by analyzing project specifications, drawings, and technical requirements.
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam to prepare comprehensive bid proposals.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret technical drawings and ensure accurate scope of work.
- Conduct thorough quantity takeoffs and material pricing to establish precise project budgets.
- Negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.
- Apply knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) standards to ensure estimates align with safety and compliance requirements.
- Assist in project planning by providing cost control insights and identifying potential risks or scope changes.
- Support contract review processes by evaluating terms related to electrical work scope, schedules, and budgets.
- Maintain organized documentation of all estimate components for transparency and audit purposes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by refining estimating processes and incorporating lessons learned.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in construction estimating, specifically within high voltage electrical or substation projects.
- Strong electrical background with hands-on experience in construction site activities or project management.
- Proficiency in estimating tools such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and related software platforms.
- Knowledge of NEC standards, electrical codes, and safety regulations applicable to substation construction.
- Demonstrated ability in negotiation, cost control, pricing strategies, and contract evaluation.
- Familiarity with construction management practices including scheduling, resource allocation, and project coordination.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail in quantity takeoffs and budgeting.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with clients, vendors, engineers, and internal teams.
