Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Radioprotection (RP) functions at Trekkopje mine during the construction phase, care & maintenance, and future operations. This includes developing and implementing a safety culture aligned with the highest international standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and fostering continuous improvement in occupational health, environmental stewardship, and radiation protection
  • Establish and maintain an integrated HSE-RP management system aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards. This includes digitalizing HSE routines, defining and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), and embedding safety culture initiatives, such as Visible Safety Leadership (VSP), inspections, and safety anchors to ensure active engagement and accountability across all team members.
  • Define and manage the appropriate HSE-RP workforce according to the project phase. Update or develop procedures in alignment with Namibian legislation and internal corporate policies, while ensuring full environmental compliance across all operations.
  • Organize and deliver regular and specialized training (e.g., LOTO, Permit to Work, Risk Assessments), ensure mandatory HSE training completion for employees and subcontractors, and reinforce standards through coaching and, where necessary, disciplinary measures.
  • Implement incident prevention systems, including Pareto analysis, near-miss and High-Potential Incident (HIPO) management, root cause analysis, and mitigation tracking. Lead emergency preparedness programs and drills, while overseeing environmental and radioprotection monitoring activities to ensure operational resilience and regulatory compliance.
  • Define and communicate clear HSE-RP expectations to EPC/EPCM contractors, and implement structured systems that actively engage, align, and monitor contractor performance against company safety standards and objectives.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Engineering Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Engineering (or related field), providing a strong technical foundation for managing complex construction and mining projects.
  • Recognized HSE Certification: Holder of internationally recognized certifications such as SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent, ensuring expertise in occupational health, safety, and environmental management systems.
  • Certified in Radiation Protection
  • Proven track record with more than 10 years of experience managing HSE functions on major international construction and mining projects. Demonstrated success as HSE Manager in leading safety culture initiatives, ensuring compliance with international standards and local legislation, and delivering measurable improvements in occupational health, environmental protection, and radioprotection performance.
  • Proven construction experience across the full project lifecycle-from contract preparation and negotiation through execution, commissioning, and final handover to operations-ensuring seamless transition and compliance with HSE-RP standards.
