WBHO Construction Western Cape is seeking an experienced, vibrant and energetic individual to join our team as a Health and Safety Officer within our Building Division. This is a Cape Town site based position.

Duties and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate should be able to effectively fulfil the following requirements:

  • 5 -7 years experience within a construction industry
  • Compliance auditing of sub-contractors and assessing compliance documentation for approval
  • Drafting and maintaining of OHS plans and systems
  • Drafting Fall protection plans
  • Risk Assessment process facilitation
  • Identify work-related hazards as well as the required controls and mitigations
  • Conduct comprehensive hazard surveys
  • Conduct on site training of employees from all levels as well as identify potential additional training needs based on site conditions and or non conformances
  • Conduct incident investigations and identify both direct and root causes as well as mitigation measures required to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Conduct PPE inspections and advise management on any additional task specific PPE that may be required
  • Liaise directly with management regarding any exposure to additional risks
  • Draft site specific emergency contingency plans
  • Facilitate the booking and conducting of employee medicals
  • Effectively maintain an ISO accredited OHS system at all times
  • Fulfil the requirements of Construction Regulation 8(5) as well as enforce compliance of The Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • 5 – 7 years of construction industry specific experience (non-negotiable)
  • Professional Registration with the SACPCMP as CHSO (non-Negotiable)
  • Legal Liability

  • Fall protection
  • First Aid
  • Incident Investigation
  • SAMTRAC/NEBOSH/RISKMAQ

Software Proficiency

Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)

Other Requirements

Valid driver’s license

Willing to travel and work away from home as per project requirements
