SUMMARY:

Our client in the beautiful surroundings of Tulbagh is seeking a Head of Sales & Marketing and New Business Development. Will be responsible for formulating and executing strategic sales and marketing plans that drive revenue growth, optimise profitability, and strengthen market presence within the fruit food production and packaging industry. Will lead efforts to identify new market opportunities, build strong customer relationships, and collaborate cross-functionally to support sustainable business growth and competitive advantage.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Advanced qualifications (ie MBA) are highly desirable
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in a Sales/Marketing leadership role, preferably in FMCG or agriculture/food production
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and market expansion
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Executive office-based with frequent operational and site visits
  • Regular participation in Board and EXCO meetings
  • Periodic travel to regional facilities and external compliance forums
  • International travel might occur

Duties and Responsibilities:

Sales, Marketing and Business Development

  • Understand and drive strategic sales, marketing, and new business development initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable revenue growth and profitability
  • Strong understanding of sales and marketing principles, including business development strategies tailored to the fruit food production industry, pricing strategies and market segmentation
  • Proven ability to develop and execute effective sales plans that drive revenue growth and market expansion
  • Brand positioning and localised marketing campaigns
  • Thorough understanding of Sales and Marketing value chain

Market Analysis and Consumer Behavior

  • Expertise in conducting thorough market research and analysing consumer trends to identify growth opportunities
  • Skilled in interpreting data to make informed marketing and product positioning decisions
  • Competitor analysis and market benchmarking
  • Adapting marketing strategies based on consumer behaviour

Pricing and Cost Management

  • Knowledge of pricing strategies to balance profitability with competitive positioning
  • Ability to manage costs and contribute to budgeting processes for marketing and sales activities

Technology and Systems

  • Familiarity with CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems to streamline sales and marketing operations
  • Proficiency in digita marketing tools and analytics platforms to track campaign effectiveness and customer engagement

Digital and Traditional Marketing

  • Use of social media, email marketing, and SEO/SEM
  • Managing brand awareness through digital and physical channels
  • Development of marketing collateral, promotions, and campaigns

Financial Acumen

  • Competence in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making
  • Ability to monitor sales performance metrics and ROI for marketing initiatives
  • Interpreting sales and marketing data
  • Tracking performance through dashboards and analytics

Compliance and Industry Standards

  • Understanding of relevant compliance standards, including food safety certifications and legal requirements affecting marketing and sales practices
  • Ensures all activities align with international best practices and regulatory guidelines
  • Awareness of government support programs and industry bodies

Community and Relationship Management

  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Negotiation with clients, distributors, and partners
  • Building and maintaining relationships with retailers, distributors, and community stakeholders

Distribution and Operations

  • Coordination with logistics and supply chain for timely distribution
  • Knowledge of cold chain, inventory, and warehousing principles
  • Managing product availability and shelf-life considerations

Leadership and Team Management

  • Leading and motivating a Sales & Marketing team
  • Cross-functional collaboration with production, finance, and quality assurance

Technical Competencies

  • Develops strategic sales and marketing plans to support business growth and competitive positioning
  • Applies analytical and problem-solving skills to make data-driven sales and marketing decisions
  • Maintains accuracy and attention to detail when managing campaigns, tracking results, and preparing reports
