We are currently recruiting for a passionate and motivated Head of Legal, to lead our Legal department based in Tokai, Cape Town.
The Head of Legal is responsible for the following:
Leadership:
- Assume responsibility for leading the legal team which consists of 3 departments; 1) commercial contracts, 2) conveyancing and 3) corporate governance.
- Ensure outcomes are achieved and drive specialised legal services across the Amdec Group, providing innovative solutions and creative problem-solving skills.
- Must be capable of engaging with various stakeholders within the Group as well as externally to ensure Group objectives are achieved.
Commercial contracts:
- Review and vet various commercial contracts including; lease agreements, sale agreements, shareholder agreements, sole and joint mandate agreements, joint venture agreements and sale of share agreements.
- Provide sound legal advice and solutions based on commercial terms whilst promoting the Group’s business objectives.
Conveyancing:
- Oversee the in-house conveyancing department and external conveyancing attorneys to ensure all conveyancing is managed as efficiently as possible.
- Maintain and enhance relations with external conveyancing firms.
- Push matters to registration as quickly as possible, providing solutions to any conveyancing matters causing delays.
Corporate Governance:
- Oversee the Head of Compliance to ensure Corporate Governance of the Group is affective and that there are zero non-compliance matters across the Amdec Group.
The successful candidate must possess the following:
- Admitted attorney (notary and conveyancer would be advantageous)
- At least 10 years minimum post admission experience in a leadership capacity
- Must have an outcomes-based work style rather than a time-based work style
- Must have a high level of business acumen
- Understanding of property law, transfers and bond registration processes for freehold and sectional title properties.
- Must be assertive and confident with engaging with senior executives on a regular basis
