SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Engineering (Electrical) to lead the engineering function within a fast-growing solar energy company based in Somerset West. This role is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and optimisation of solar energy systems, while leading a high-performing engineering team and ensuring technical excellence across all projects.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng / BSc or equivalent)
- Professional registration (ECSA) highly advantageous
- 15 – 20 years’ experience in electrical engineering, with significant exposure to solar/renewable energy projects
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of solar PV design, grid integration, and electrical systems
- Experience with relevant software (e.g. PVsyst, AutoCAD, Helioscope or similar)
In-depth understanding of South African electrical standards and regulations
DUTIES:
- Lead and manage the electrical engineering team, ensuring high performance and continuous development
- Oversee the design and engineering of solar PV systems (commercial and/or utility-scale)
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant electrical standards, regulations, and safety requirements
- Provide technical leadership across project lifecycle – from feasibility to commissioning
- Collaborate with project management, procurement, and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation
- Drive innovation, efficiency, and cost optimisation within engineering processes
- Manage engineering budgets, timelines, and resource allocation
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies where required
