The Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged (CPOA) is looking for a reliable and versatile Handyman / Driver to join our team at Kronendal Retirement Village in Hout Bay.

With more than 25 facilities across the Western Cape, we are committed to creating safe, supportive, and dignified environments for older persons.
About the Role
This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Home Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for general maintenance of the facility, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for residents, staff, and visitors. In addition, the role includes driving duties, assisting with the transport of residents for outings, appointments, and errands.
This position requires a practical, hands-on individual with strong technical ability, attention to detail, and a respectful, service-oriented approach when working with elderly residents.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 16:00
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repair work
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance
- Ensure buildings, equipment, and safety systems are functional and compliant
- Report major issues requiring specialist attention
Workshop & Tools
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop
- Ensure tools are properly maintained and stored
Administration & Reporting
- Complete job cards and maintain accurate maintenance records
- Monitor stock and request materials timeously
Driving & Transport (Secondary Function)
- Transport residents safely for outings, shopping, and medical visits
- Assist residents with care and respect when boarding and disembarking
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness
- Adhere to all road safety regulations
- Please note: any traffic fines incurred due to non-compliance will be for the employee’s account
Health & Safety
- Comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulations at all times
- Use appropriate PPE and report any hazards
Resident Interaction
- Respond professionally and courteously to maintenance requests
- Work with patience, empathy, and respect in residents’ living spaces
Minimum Requirements
- Proven experience in general maintenance or handyman work
- Basic skills across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and repairs
- Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record – essential
- Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit) – essential
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A reliable, responsible, and service-driven attitude
- Must reside in or around the Hout Bay area (non-negotiable)
