Finance
  • Implementing and Monitoring landscape stock and budgets
  • Identify and adapt to changing Operational Situations in order to remain within budget
  • Resource Optimization
  • Cost effectiveness of procurement of required services

Customers / Stakeholders
  • Ensure that Service Delivery within the University serves the Academic, Staff and Students in implementing the Services DepartmentÂ’s Strategic Goals
  • Collaborate with Internal Customers and External Service Providers so as to develop cooperation and Teamwork

Business Processes:
Contract Management
  • Procurement of services related to areas (s) of responsibility as and when needed as per the UniversityÂ’s Delegation of Authority Guidelines
  • Procurement of correct machines, equipment and materials
  • Ensure effective management of Service Providers as per agreed Scope of Work
Operational Plan
  • Formulate and Implement the Operational Plan to ensure High Service Delivery
  • Participate in establishing and monitoring of implementation of Standard Operating Procedures in your area of responsibility
  • Participate and lead sustainability events and any events related to the division.
  • Submission of Landscape Management Reports
Project Management
  • Participate in management of new upgrades of landscape related projects
  • Drawing and day-to-day management of Irrigation systems
  • Participate in project costing and concept designs for new and existing landscape and irrigation systems
  • Use AutoCAD to draw landscape and irrigation designs
Occupational Health & Safety
  • Ensure safe-working environment
  • Implement and monitor OHS standards across all operations.
  • Ensure service providers and contractors adhere to OHS requirements.

People Management / Learning & Growth
  • Management of staff as per the UniversityÂ’s HR Policies and Processes
  • Set out Performance Outputs and Measurements for each direct report
  • Effective management of poor or non-performance of staff
  • Effective management of Disciplinary Issues as the UniversityÂ’s Disciplinary Code/Code of Conduct, with the help of HR/ER Office
  • Ensures continuous Training of team members especially on Customer Service and Health and Safety
  • Promote diversity and teamwork within your area of responsibility

Ad-Hoc
  • Assist with any other duties related or not related to the job scope as and when requested by line manager as and when required
  • Support, facilitate and assist with the implementation of new innovations, initiatives and service delivery
  • Keeping abreast of Industry Trends and Best Practice

Required Academic Qualification/s (and Professional Registration/Trade where applicable):
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • National Diploma or a Degree in Landscape Architecture/ Landscape Technology
  • A valid DriverÂ’s License (Code 08 or 10)
  • SACLAP Landscape Technologist accreditation

Required Years of Work-Related Experience:
  • 3-5 years in design implementation of landscape services related to recreational Facilities Management
  • 3-5 years in irrigation design and installation
  • 1 year Managerial experience in landscape management and managing complex project
  • Knowledge of technical landscape details, water infrastructure

Compliance/Statutory Requirements (Knowledge, Understanding and or Training)
  • Construction contracts
  • OHS Act
  • BCEA
  • Any other relevant legislation

Technical Competencies
  • Projects and people management
  • Ability to operationalise construction contracts and legislation, namely, NEMA, OHS&E and BCEA
  • Knowledge of Landscape Management equipment capacity/ specifications/ suitability/ calibration
  • Understanding of arboriculture will be an added advantage
  • Computer Literacy (MS office)
  • Ability to use drawing programs
