Position Summary

We are seeking a Food Technologist / Product Developer to join our bakery team, focusing on the research, development, and improvement of gluten-free baked goods. This role is not a traditional baker or manager position, but rather a specialist role dedicated to innovation, recipe formulation, and product quality enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine gluten-free recipes for breads, pastries, and other baked goods.
  • Experiment with alternative flours, starches, and binding agents to achieve optimal texture and taste.
  • Conduct trials, document processes, and adjust formulations based on feedback.
  • Collaborate with bakers and production staff to ensure recipes are scalable and cost-effective.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, ingredients, and techniques in gluten-free baking.
  • Ensure products meet food safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Background in food science, food technology, or culinary arts (specializing in baking).
  • Experience with gluten-free baking and knowledge of alternative ingredients.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative skills in recipe development.
  • Ability to balance innovation with practicality in a production environment.

  • Technical baking knowledge: Understanding of ingredient functionality (flours, starches, gums, proteins).
  • Recipe development skills: Ability to formulate, test, and refine gluten-free baked goods.
  • Problem-solving mindset: Creative approach to overcoming texture, taste, and shelf-life challenges.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to document trials, measure outcomes, and adjust formulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with bakers, production staff, and management to scale recipes.
  • Trend awareness: Keep up with innovations in gluten-free and health-conscious baking.
  • Attention to detail: Ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with food safety standards.
  • Communication skills: Clearly present findings, recipes, and recommendations to the team.

Pay: R15 000,00 – R20 000,00 per month
