Founding School Leader / Superintendent – Charter Startup (Pre-Launch) Jobs in Round Rock, TX at Lead Global Foundation

Position: Founding Superintendent (title may be adjusted to Head of School / Chief Executive based on final structure)

Reports to: Board of Directors, Lead Global Foundation

Location: South Austin, Texas (78745); serving the greater Austin metro

Employment: At-will. Start date and employment are contingent on Texas Education Agency (TEA) approval of the charter.

About This Opportunity

Lead Global Foundation is preparing an application to the Texas Education Agency to open Global Lead Academy, a proposed tuition-free K–8 public charter school in South Austin. We want to be fully transparent about our stage: the charter has not yet been approved, and we are actively preparing our application for the next TEA cycle.

We are seeking an experienced school leader to join us as Founding Superintendent — someone who will help strengthen the application now and, upon approval, lead the school from launch through opening and beyond. This is a true ground-floor leadership role for a builder who wants to shape a school’s academic model, culture, and team from the foundation up.

Position Summary

The Founding Superintendent will serve as the chief executive of the charter school, accountable to the Board for academic, operational, financial, and community leadership. During the application and planning phases, the Superintendent contributes expertise to the charter application and leads start-up activities; upon opening, the Superintendent leads all aspects of the school in partnership with the Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application & launch: Strengthen the academic, governance, and operational components of the TEA charter application; lead the planning year upon approval.
  • Academic leadership: Design and oversee a rigorous K–8 instructional model; ensure strong programming for emergent bilingual (EB) students and students with disabilities; select high-quality instructional materials (HQIM); build data-driven instruction and assessment systems.
  • Operations & compliance: Ensure compliance with TEA requirements, PEIMS, Charter FIRST financial standards, and applicable state and federal law; oversee budget, facility readiness, and procurement.
  • Talent: Recruit, hire, develop, and retain a high-quality teaching staff; establish a strong, positive school culture.
  • Community engagement: Build authentic partnerships with South Austin families and organizations; lead student recruitment and enrollment.
  • Governance: Partner with and report to the Board; support a transparent superintendent evaluation framework.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading a school (e.g., Principal, Head of School, Assistant Superintendent, or Superintendent).
  • A track record of strong or improving student outcomes (e.g., an A/B-rated campus or measurable, sustained gains).
  • Working knowledge of Texas public education: TEA accountability, PEIMS, school finance, and charter operations.
  • Experience serving emergent bilingual (EB) and special education populations.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in educational leadership or a related field preferred.
  • Texas principal or superintendent certification — or eligibility and willingness to obtain it.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Texas charter school start-up or turnaround experience.
  • Experience opening a new school.
  • Roots in or strong ties to South Austin / Central Texas.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Important Note on Status

This position is contingent upon TEA’s approval of the Global Lead Academy charter. Employment would be at-will and would begin only upon approval and completion of standard pre-employment requirements (including background checks and credential verification). We are committed to full transparency with candidates about our application stage.
