SUMMARY:
A Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Concern is seeking a Fitter for their Workshop and Production Environment.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 (Matric) + Qualified Fitter Trade Test
Experience:
Minimum 3–5 Years' Post-trade Experience.
Experience in heavy manufacturing, mining, engineering, or refurbishment environments.
Experience with mechanical assembly and refurbishment activities.
Purpose:
To assemble, fit, rebuild, repair, inspect, and maintain mechanical components, assemblies, and equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, OEM-equivalent standards, quality requirements, and production schedules. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring components and assemblies are accurately fitted, refurbished, tested, and prepared for final inspection and delivery. The role contributes directly to product quality, equipment reliability, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and project delivery performance.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:
Assembly & Fitting Operations
- Assemble mechanical components and sub-assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform fitting, alignment, adjustment, and installation of components.
- Verify correct fitment of parts and assemblies.
- Ensure assemblies meet dimensional and operational requirements.
- Conduct mechanical inspections during assembly.
- Ensure all work complies with customer and quality requirements.
Refurbishment & Rebuild Activities
- Dismantle and inspect worn or damaged components.
- Assess component condition against refurbishment criteria.
- Replace, repair, or refurbish components where required.
- Reassemble refurbished units to OEM-equivalent standards.
- Verify functionality and dimensional compliance following refurbishment.
- Ensure refurbishment documentation is completed.
- Assist Quality Inspectors during final inspections.
Drawing Interpretation & Technical Compliance
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, specifications, and works orders.
- Adherence to works orders.
- Verify component requirements before commencing work.
- Identify discrepancies or technical concerns.
- Ensure use of current revision-controlled documentation.
- Consult supervisors or engineering personnel regarding technical queries.
Testing & Functional Verification
- Conduct operational and functional checks on completed assemblies.
- Verify correct operation of fitted components.
- Assist with pressure testing, load testing, or functional testing where applicable.
Tools, Equipment & Workshop Care
- Use tools and workshop equipment safely and correctly.
- Maintain tools in serviceable condition.
- Report damaged equipment.
- Ensure proper storage of tools and equipment.
- Maintain clean and organised work areas.
Productivity & Operational Efficiency
- Achieve planned production and refurbishment targets.
- Complete work within allocated labour hours.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Comply with all safety procedures and legal requirements.
- Wear prescribed PPE.
- Identify and report hazards.
- Maintain housekeeping standards.
