ABOUT THE ROLE
Gear Pump Manufacturing is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced First Off Inspector to join our Quality Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the first component produced in the manufacturing process meets all engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards before full production begins.
This role is critical in preventing defects, reducing waste, and ensuring compliance with ISO quality and safety standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics
- Technical qualification (advantageous)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Understanding of tolerances, fits, and basic GD&T principles
- Experience with precision measuring instruments
- Knowledge of quality inspection processes
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform first-off inspection before batch production begins
- Verify compliance with engineering drawings and specifications
- Approve or reject components before production continues
- Identify and report non-conformances (NCRs/CARs)
- Stop production when defects or deviations are identified
- Operate and interpret results from 3D measuring machines (CMM)
- Complete inspection reports accurately and maintain traceability
- Communicate quality issues with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams
- Ensure defective products are correctly identified and segregated
- Support patrol and final inspections when required
QUALITY, SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
- Comply with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
- Follow ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety standards
- Adhere to ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System
- Use PPE at all times and report safety risks immediately
- Maintain 6S housekeeping standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain, Safety)
