Financial Analyst Jobs in City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa at VoiceMap Audio Tours

Title: Financial Analyst

Company: VoiceMap Audio Tours

Location: City of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

The opportunity

We're looking for a Financial Analyst to join our Cape Town-based team. You'll own the day-to-day financial accounting function, produce the management reporting that drives decisions across the business, and maintain the financial models we use to plan and forecast.

This is a hands-on role in a small team. You'll post accounts, reconcile balances, and coordinate with auditors – and you'll also be the person who turns those numbers into reporting that the CEO and board actually use. If you're the kind of person who finds satisfaction in both closing the books accurately and explaining what the numbers mean, this is a role with a high ceiling. It helps if you love travel, are an early adopter of new tools and technologies, and do your best work with the flexibility of a hybrid setup.

About VoiceMap

VoiceMap is a global platform for self-guided audio tours, with walks, cycles, drives and boat trips in over 80 countries. These are produced using our collaborative CMS, Mapmaker, which combines editorial support with a unique process that has given us a reputation for quality and made us the leader in a burgeoning new market.

Our apps for iOS and Android have thousands of five-star reviews, as do the tours themselves, and we plan to offer ten times as many of them – along with a number of new, related products – all with a focus on giving people easy, engaging ways to see the world around them from new, surprising, and sometimes challenging perspectives.

What You'll Do

Financial Accounting

You'll take ownership of VoiceMap's books across our entities, working in Xero. This includes:

  • Managing the month-end close process.
  • Maintaining the general ledger.
  • Running reconciliations across bank, intercompany, and balance sheet accounts, and ensuring everything is accurate and up to date.

Royalties and Publisher Settlements

VoiceMap pays royalties to the creators who publish tours on our platform. You'll manager the end-to-end royalty reporting process:

  • Calculating amounts due.
  • Preparing and distributing royalty statements.
  • Settling payments on time.
  • Resolving any queries from publishers

Management Reporting and Analysis

You'll prepare monthly management accounts and fact sheets that compare performance against budget and prior year, covering revenue by channel, expenses, net profit, and cash position. These reports go to the leadership team and board – they need to be accurate, clear, and delivered on time.

Beyond routine reporting, you'll maintain our financial models and forecasts, updating them with actuals and flagging when assumptions need revisiting. When something interesting surfaces in the numbers — a channel shifting, a cost line moving unexpectedly, a pricing question – you'll be expected to dig in and help the team understand what's happening.

Accounts Payable

You'll manage supplier invoicing, ensure invoices are accurately captured and approved, run the payment process, and maintain clean records of supplier agreements and payment history.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (e.g. BCom Accounting, CIMA, ACCA). We're looking for solid technical grounding, not a specific credential.

Experience

Hands-on experience in a finance role, ideally in a small company or multi-entity environment where you've had to do everything from posting to reporting. Experience with Xero or a similar cloud accounting platform is a plus. Exposure to multi-currency environments or international operations is valuable but not essential – we have experienced support available for the more technical cross-border questions.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy – the books need to be right.
  • Comfortable producing clear financial reports and explaining them to non-finance people.
  • Analytical instincts: you notice when numbers don't look right and you want to understand why.
  • A proactive, self-driven approach – this is a small team and you'll need to manage your own time and priorities.
  • Genuine comfort with ambiguity and change: this is a business that evolves quickly, and the role will too.
  • A genuine interest in travel and the way people experience places – you don't need to be a travel industry veteran, but if you've ever gone out of your way to find a better route, a local recommendation, or a lesser-known neighbourhood, you'll understand what we're building.
  • An early adopter's instinct for new tools and technologies, including AI – not because it's fashionable, but because you like finding better ways to do things.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time, hybrid position – two days a week at our offices at Workshop 17, V&A Waterfront, and the rest of the week remote.

How To Apply

If you're excited by the opportunity to make a real impact at a growing company – and comfortable rolling up your sleeves in a team that values curiosity, precision, and initiative – send an email to [email protected] explaining why you're a suitable candidate for the role.
