The Finance team plays a critical role in ensuring the business operates efficiently, responsibly, and with financial integrity.

Role Purpose

The Financial Accountant supports the day-to-day financial operations of Jiwambe by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, preparing reconciliations, and ensuring financial information is complete, timely, and accurate.

The role contributes to sound financial management by supporting compliance, maintaining financial accuracy, and enabling informed business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Transactions

•Process supplier invoices and payments accurately and on time.

•Prepare payment schedules.

•Record financial transactions in the accounting system.

•Maintain accurate accounting records.

Cash & Banking

•Assist with daily cash management.

•Prepare bank reconciliations.

•Monitor bank transactions.

•Report discrepancies promptly.

Payroll

•Process monthly payroll based on inputs and data prepared by HR (attendance, leave, new hires, exits, salary changes).

•Verify payroll data for accuracy and completeness before processing.

•Compute and remit statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, etc.) within statutory deadlines.

•Process payroll payments and payslips.

•Reconcile payroll figures against the general ledger.

•Maintain strict confidentiality of employee compensation data

Accounts Payable & Receivable

•Prepare supplier account reconciliations.

•Prepare customer account reconciliations.

•Follow up on outstanding documentation.

•Maintain accurate ledgers.

Financial Reporting

•Assist in preparing weekly and monthly financial reports.

•Support month-end closing activities.

•Prepare schedules and supporting documentation.

•Maintain financial filing systems.

Compliance

•Manage statutory compliance, including KRA, NSSF, SHA, AHL, NITA, and other statutory submissions.

•Ensure supporting documentation is complete

•Maintain confidentiality of financial information.

•Follow company financial controls and policies.

•Support internal and external audits.

Continuous Improvement

•Identify opportunities to improve financial processes.

•Assist in maintaining accurate financial procedures.

•Support automation where possible.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Performance may be measured through:

•Accuracy of financial records

•Timeliness of transaction processing

•Bank reconciliation accuracy

•Payment turnaround time

•Filing completeness

•Compliance with internal controls

•Error rate

•Responsiveness to internal stakeholders

Qualifications

Essential

•Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) or equivalent degree in Accounting or Finance.

•CPA Part II or equivalent (CPA Part III preferred).

•Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.

•In-depth knowledge of IFRS for SME’s accounting principles.

•Experience with cloud-based Accounting software packages

Desirable

•Completed articles or gained structured professional training with a reputable audit, accounting, or professional services firm.

•Experience in asset financing, banking, fintech, or a startup environment.

Experience

•3-5 years' experience in accounting or finance.

•Experience processing financial transactions.

•Experience preparing reconciliations.

•Experience maintaining accurate financial records.
