Financial Accountant

Cape Town | Finance

Salary: R40 000 – R45 000 per month

We are looking for a detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join a dynamic finance team. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end processes, ensuring compliance with tax and accounting regulations, and assisting with statutory reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Fixed Asset Management

  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register with the general ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Record and monitor asset additions, transfers, and disposals.
  • Ensure all asset movements comply with internal accounting policies.
  • Support audit processes by ensuring asset records are accurate and well documented.

General Ledger & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post month-end journals accurately within reporting deadlines.
  • Review the Income Statement to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items before month-end close.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with accounting policies.

Tax Compliance

  • Prepare monthly tax calculations and related journals.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of corporate income tax returns.
  • Prepare provisional tax calculations and payments.
  • Compile and submit VAT returns in accordance with legislative deadlines.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with South African tax regulations.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records to meet legal and tax requirements.
  • Monitor changes in accounting standards and ensure appropriate implementation.
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment within the finance function.

Audit Support

  • Liaise with external auditors during audit cycles.
  • Ensure all required documentation and information is available for audit review.
  • Address and resolve audit queries in a timely manner.
  • Ensure minimal audit findings through strong financial governance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Review and approve supplier invoices on procurement platforms.
  • Review and release supplier payments where required.
  • Provide general support to the finance team and assist with ad hoc financial tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3–5 years’ experience in an accounting or financial reporting role
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles

Technical Skills

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of general ledger and reconciliation processes
  • Experience with fixed asset registers
  • Understanding of South African tax legislation
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
