We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented International Payments and Costing Accountant to join our finance team.
About the Role
The International Payments and Costing Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the company’s global supply chain and financial operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of international procurement, including foreign supplier payments, import costing, foreign exchange transactions, and regulatory compliance related to imports and exports.
Working closely with overseas suppliers, banks, customs authorities, and internal departments, the incumbent will ensure accurate inventory costing, efficient processing of international payments, and full compliance with South African Reserve Bank and customs regulations.
Key Responsibilities
– Process and manage foreign supplier payments in accordance with company policies and international banking requirements.
– Calculate and maintain accurate foreign currency inventory costing, ensuring all import-related costs are correctly allocated to stock.
– Manage foreign exchange contracts and monitor currency exposure to support effective cash flow and cost management.
– Record and reconcile accounting transactions relating to international trade activities.
– Prepare and reconcile overseas supplier accounts, ensuring timely resolution of queries and discrepancies.
– Calculate, process, and reconcile Customs VAT and other import-related charges.
– Manage marine insurance requirements for imported shipments.
– Maintain complete and accurate import documentation and ensure compliance with exchange control regulations.
– Liaise with banks, freight forwarders, customs authorities, and international suppliers.
– Assist with financial reporting and month-end reconciliations relating to imports and international transactions.
Minimum Requirements
– Relevant Accounting or Finance qualification.
– Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in international payments, import costing, foreign exchange, or a similar role.
– Strong understanding of foreign exchange transactions and international banking processes.
– Knowledge of import/export procedures, customs regulations, and VAT requirements.
– Experience working with accounting and ERP systems.
– Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
– Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities.
– Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
