Job Title: Financial ManagerJob Purpose
The Financial Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial management, statutory compliance, and reporting of the organization. The role ensures full compliance with South African regulatory requirements, including tax legislation, VAT, and financial reporting standards, while supporting operational efficiency in a manufacturing and wholesale environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Planning & Analysis
- Analyze production costs, gross margins, and distribution expenses
- Provide financial insights to support strategic and operational decisions
- Monitor key performance indicators aligned to manufacturing and wholesale operations
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with IFRS or applicable reporting frameworks
- Ensure compliance with the Companies Act 71 of 2008
- Manage and oversee accurate general ledger and reconciliations
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare management reports and variance analyses
Taxation & SARS Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with the South African Revenue Service requirements
- Oversee submission of:
- Corporate Income Tax (ITR14)
- Provisional Tax (IRP6)
- PAYE, UIF, and SDL returns (EMP201 & EMP501)
- Manage tax planning and ensure accurate tax provisioning
- Handle SARS audits, queries, and verifications
VAT Management
- Ensure compliance with the Value-Added Tax Act 89 of 1991
- Oversee accurate preparation and submission of VAT201 returns
- Review input and output VAT for correctness and eligibility
- Ensure proper VAT treatment on imports, exports, and zero-rated supplies (critical in wholesale)
- Maintain proper VAT documentation and audit trails
Cost Accounting & Inventory Control
- Implement and manage standard costing systems
- Monitor bill of materials (BOMs), labour, and overhead absorption
- Oversee inventory valuation in line with accounting standards
- Ensure regular stock counts, cycle counts, and reconciliation of variances
- Work with operations to reduce waste and improve cost efficiency
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Manage cash flow forecasts and liquidity
- Oversee debtors and creditors management
- Optimize working capital (inventory days, debtor days, creditor cycles)
- Manage banking relationships and funding requirements
Internal Controls & Audit
- Develop and maintain robust internal controls
- Ensure audit readiness and manage external/internal audits
- Implement risk management processes
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and governance standards
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop the finance team
- Drive accountability, performance, and continuous improvement
- Partner with operations, procurement, and sales teams
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- 5–8+ years’ experience in a manufacturing and/or wholesale environment
- Strong knowledge of South African tax and VAT legislation
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of SARS processes and eFiling
- Advanced knowledge of VAT (including imports/exports)
- Cost accounting and inventory management expertise
- ERP systems experience (e.g., SAP, Syspro, Sage)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- High level of integrity and attention to detail

- Timely and accurate submission of all SARS returns
- VAT compliance and zero audit findings/penalties
- Accuracy of financial reporting
- Cost control and margin improvement
- Inventory accuracy and stock variance reduction
