JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

The Field Service Technician performs termination of electrical cables in cabinets, troubleshooting electrical systems, and repair of installed physical security systems comprised of active vehicle barriers, passive barriers, mobile vehicle barriers and electronic security systems.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required
  • Associate degree in engineering technology or electronics is preferred or,
  • Industrial Maintenance or electronics trade school certification.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required
  • Any licenses to operate forklifts or other heavy equipment is a plus
  • Any Electrician certification or license is a plus

Abilities

  • Must be able to pass background checks to gain site access where work is to be performed
  • Position requires up to 15% paid travel within the United States.
  • Extensive electrical and electromechanical systems is required
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools, power tools, and equipment is required
  • Basic computer proficiency in is required, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

Experience

  • 2-5 years of leadership experience in a related electrical or electronics field is required
  • 7+ years of experience in a construction trade, maintenance technician, equipment operator, or other related field is required
  • 5+ years of experience with complex mechanical and/ or electrical systems is required
  • 5+ years of experience with electronics such as PLCs, Servo actuators, or VFDs is required

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics and terminate wire inside electrical panels per those diagrams. (30%)
  • Assist more experienced technicians with routine preventive maintenance on a variety of active vehicle barrier systems and integrated electronic security systems to maintain or restore the system’s integrity (60%)
  • Document all work with appropriate red line drawings, service forms, repair tickets, or warranty records to ensure traceability and provide data for billing (10%)
  • Assist other techs in completing major electrical repairs, control system corrections, component replacement, and structural damage as required.
  • Evaluate system damage from vehicle impact, and other routine and complex tasks on a range of perimeter security systems, both company designed and systems from other manufacturers.
  • Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance steps on a variety of physical security systems, including cleaning, operational checks, mechanical adjustments, servicing lubricants, and replacing hydraulic fluid and other consumable materials.
  • Ensure client is informed of work completed and aware of operational status of the systems during debriefs after each visit.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete training and/or certification classes required for access to specific client sites, to perform maintenance and repair on new physical security systems, and to attain required safety training certification.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions.
  • Work is performed primarily between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM but some work to be completed during the hours of 7 PM and 5 AM.
  • Worker is frequently exposed to various levels of constant or intermittent noise.
  • Worker is occasionally exposed to dust and fumes.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Mobility (i.e., walking, standing and climbing) to gain access to customer sites and location of equipment.
  • Crouching and kneeling when working on systems at lower levels and in tight quarters.
  • Climbing when working on ladders and scaffolding to reach and service equipment.
  • Manual dexterity involving telephone, keyboard, and other office machine operations.
  • Visual acuity when reviewing written information via documents or computer.
  • Lift and transport 50 lbs (up to 10 lbs constantly, 10-20 lbs frequently, and 20-50 lbs occasionally); Lift and transport up to 75 lbs with mechanical support or other means when available.
  • Light to Moderate stress when handling numerous tasks and troubleshooting deficiencies in equipment.

Pay: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour
