SUMMARY:
A boutique Safari Lodge is looking for a FARM MANAGER
POSITION INFO:
The Farm Manager is a hands-on operational leader responsible for the day-to-day management of the lodges’ infrastructure and farm environment. This includes overseeing maintenance, repairs, construction projects, water and energy systems, vehicle operations, and contractor supervision. The role demands strong practical skills in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building, alongside the ability to manage people and solve problems independently in a remote setting.
Core criteria:
- Trade qualification (electrician, plumber, builder, etc.)
- Experience in game reserve or safari lodge operations
- Health & safety or first-aid certification
- Strong hands-on skills: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, general repairs
- Building and construction knowledge
- Ability to drive and operate large vehicles/machinery
- Valid driver’s licence (Code 10/14 advantageous)
- Independent problem-solver, adaptable to remote environments
- Strong people management and communication skills
Candidate Responsibilities:
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of guest areas, staff housing, roads, fences, and utilities
- Manage building, renovation, and construction projects (intermediate/advanced level)
- Supervise water systems, generators, pumps, solar systems, electrical and plumbing upkeep
- Operate and maintain large vehicles (tractors, trucks, game-drive vehicles)
- Supervise contractors and manage stock/materials ordering
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and operational standards
- Liaise with lodge management for operational coordination
